History

Established in 1993.
California Bakery and Cafe has been part of The Santa Clarita community for over 30 years. Augustin Prieto, originally from Chihuahua, Mexico, got his passion for baking pastries while working in a bakery in Colorado but eventually moved to California to work with Donuts Inn. Then with perserverance and great enthusiasm, Augustin finally took over the store on Soledad Canyon Road in the 90's and renamed it to the California Bakery and Cafe.

Owner

Augustin Prieto is originally from Chihuahua Mexico, moved to Colorado in early 70's. He got his expertise and passion working for a bakery shop. He moved to California and worked 30 years for Donuts in. He took over one of the stores of the franchisor in 1993 and recently changed the name for California bakery and Cafe.

  The chicken tamales from here are very good. I am very picky when it comes tamales. It was either homemade or nothing at all. I've tried several companies tamales. These were excellent, the salsa had great flavor, the tamale was just the right texture and softness. Will return again in the future! Thanks

  This place sells donuts 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Can't stress enough how awesome that is. The staff seems pretty nice but sometimes the selection is weak or the flavor of the donut is off. Maybe that can be expected of a batch made at 1 AM? Not sure. Either way, if you have drunk friends you're driving around as a DD - good on you! - take them here to fill them up with sweets for a low price.

  The Lavender Sea Salt shortbread cookies are pretty freakin' sweet. Actually they're also savory, but you know what I mean. Crisp, buttery, with the sea salt giving it a savory flavorful twist. Smart choice from the Saison team to serve them as mignardises post meal. Now I'm only guessing here but, Batter's Friandise kiosk is gonna go gangbusters when they open.
